Canon-Optometric Assistant
Skyline Vision Clinic is seeking an Optometric Assistant, Medical Assistant or the right person who is interested in helping us with our mission to provide high-quality health care in a safe, convenient, and comfortable environment. The Optometric Technician or Medical Assistant will perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the provider to allow for a proper professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions. WILL TRAIN!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, OSHA Rules and Regulations, environmental and infection control standards.
- Fields patient phone calls promptly and in a professional manner.
- Assists providers and other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Prepares patient for scheduled procedures.
- Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications and ensure accuracy and proper documentation in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline as determined by the clinic manager.
- Assist with patient pre-op and post-op counseling, procedure set up, and performing in office procedures.
- Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain and clean all equipment/ instruments.
- Arranges for provider ordered diagnostics or therapeutic services.
- Ensures cleanliness, adequate stock of supplies and functioning equipment in examination rooms.
- Cleans and sterilizes equipment and tools.
- Completes shift opening and closing procedures.
- Assists all providers and other clinical staff as needed and assigned.
- Completes other tasks/duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Computer and typing proficiency.
- Displays strong verbal/written communication and organization skills.
- Ability to effectively organize resources, establish priorities, and perform multiple tasks.
- Professionalism and ability to be discreet with confidential and sensitive issues.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical equipment, HIPAA compliance, and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Ability to arrive at work on a timely basis when scheduled (at least 15 minutes prior to seeing patients) and to work a varied schedule.

This role can involve standing or sitting for extended periods of time, bending at the waist, and using hands and fingers to handle and file papers or operate assigned equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Employee may also have to lift 10 to 25 lbs. unassisted.

Ophthalmic Technician
Fast paced ophthalmology practice looking for a ophthalmic technician or medical assistant to join our team. Will train!
Position Summary
Primary responsibilities include performing required initial part of visual examination for physician. Gathering important medical information and performs visual screening prior to physician’s visit with patient. Enter Medical Record documentation. We have multiple locations including Colorado Springs, Canon City and Pueblo so willingness to travel is a must.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greets patients and introduces self prior to eye exam.
- Explain to patient what patient should expect from exam.
- Review patient history including past medical history, family medical history, and chief complaint prior to exam.
- Checks patient’s uncorrected and corrected visual acuity for distance and near when applicable.
- Assists with contact lens fittings when needed.
- Patient education in the office and on the telephone. Ensures appropriate documentation is available on patients’ charts.
- Ensures appropriate supplies/equipment is available and functional for patient care according to office policy and procedures.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining medical records and operating procedures.
- Attends required staff and educational meetings as requested.
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality.
- Maintains current licensure.
- All employees have a responsibility to comply with our organization’s policies and procedures, code of conduct, compliance, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Assist patients to receptionist desk after completed exam.
- Performs one or more of the following exams: Ishira Color Vision, Sterop, W4D, Amsler, Confrontational Visual Fields (CVF), Extra Ocular Movements (EOMs), and Titmus Stereo Testing.
- Preforms appropriate assessment beginning of exam.
Requirements
- Must maintain a calm and patient attitude when working with all patients. Demonstrating the up most courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift/stretch/bend in providing patient care.
- Auditory and visual acuity.
- Manual dexterity for operating office/medical equipment.
- High level of mental awareness.
Education / Experience
High School Diploma / GED
3+ years experience in an ophthalmic clinic preferred
COA preferred but not required
