Michael Young, OD
Dr. Michael Young is from Lakewood, Colorado. He attended Wheat Ridge High School where he graduated in the top 5 percent of his class. He then finished his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins where he was inducted into the prestigious academic fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, for academic excellence.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, Dr. Young attended Pacific University, College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, with a Health Professions Scholarship awarded by the United States Air Force. As an avid college tennis player and coach, during his senior year at Pacific University he completed a sport’s vision study entitled “Vision and Tennis” and assisted top U.S. sport’s vision optometrists in the screening of visual skills of junior Olympians.
Upon graduation from the four-year Optometry Professional school program at Pacific University, Dr. Young entered the U.S. Air Force as a Captain and eventually rose to the rank of Colonel. His first assignment was in Turkey where he was the only eye care provider in the Middle East. After many assignments at military hospitals and clinics in the U.S. and all over the world, he completed his last assignment at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland where he was an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Optometry for Pacific University and Commander of the 79th Aerospace Medicine Squadron. Dr. Young moved back to Colorado in 2008 where he has worked in private practice optometry and at two eye surgery centers. He joined team at Skyline Vision Clinic & Laser Center in 2015.
Dr. Young averages 50 hours a year in post graduate education and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a prestigious scientific group of Optometrists. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Colorado Optometric Association and the Ocular Nutrition Society. Dr. Young earned certification as Diplomate of The American Board of Optometry. Only 5 percent of Optometrists have attained this distinction. He has completed the highest level of licensure for his profession in Colorado.
Dr. Young is married with two children who are now young adults. His wife, Sandra Young OD, published, Visionary Kitchen, A Cookbook for Eye Health which has won eight national book awards. He enjoys tennis, skiing, hiking, cycling and the Colorado outdoors.
