As an alternative to our standard cataract surgery, we offer laser-based cataract surgery. Also called blade-free cataract surgery; this process uses the revolutionary LenSx® femtosecond laser to provide cataract patients another option for clear vision. The LenSx system uses a computer-controlled laser to make corneal incisions, soften the cloudy cataract lens and remove it – all based on a detailed 3-D image of the eye.
Once the cloudy cataract lens has been removed with the laser, a new Intraocular Lens (IOL) can be implanted. Our doctors will work with you before surgery to determine the type of IOL that will work best for your vision goals and lifestyle.
Benefits of Laser-Based Cataract Surgery
- Precise pre-surgery eye measurements allow the unique characteristics of your eye to be treated during surgery
- Surgery is faster, more precise and more controlled
- Procedure is more comfortable for the patient
- Completely customized treatment provides improved vision results
- Doctors have 3-D visualization and real-time video imaging
- Less “human” error with laser precision
For some patients, laser-based cataract surgery can replace our standard method of cataract surgery which is performed using a hand-held blade for incisions and high-energy sound waves to break up the cloudy lens. This standard method of cataract surgery is still very effective and is used in our office. Your doctor can determine which cataract surgery method is right for you.
Skyline Vision Clinic & Laser Center is continually researching and implementing new technologies to provide better vision results for patients. By adding LenSx technology to our offerings, our cataract patients have even greater vision success due to the precision and customization that comes with computerized treatment.
